Hello, welcome back!
On my last post I announced the great news of being selected for the Outreachy December 2018 to March 2019 round! Yes :-), Its so amazing. I will walk you through the process so you can get ready for the next round, yes I said next round because It runs twice a year. This means you have two chances each year of being selected, how amazing is this?
Ok, let starts with the question: Why Outreachy? Firstly because it provides an amazing three-month internship to work in FOSS -Free and Open Source Software. Furthermore, interns are paid a stipend of $5,500 and have a $500 travel stipend available to them, this is so encouraging. Outreachy internship projects may include programming, user experience, documentation, illustration and graphical design, or data science check here for more info. You won’t want to miss an opportunity to work on one of these amazing projects, this brings us to the third point: It runs twice a year as earlier mentioned. So you have no excuse because you can apply as many times as you want so far as you are eligible, don’t worry, I’ll talk about eligibility soon. Finally, you also have the opportunity (for some of us new to open source) to join a community of developers where you can contribute, grow as a developer, get the help you need and learn more. As for me I joined the amazing Parsing team, who welcomed me in a way I wasn’t expecting, many thanks to the Parsing team once more especially to my mentor Subbu Sastry.
Here is the application process, you can find the eligibility rules here, and make sure to be available for a full time 40 hours a week before applying. You can check your time table for the periods you may be free and to which outreachy round it corresponds.
My application went on smoothly as I followed the application process and when I contacted my mentor, he guided me and made sure I followed the required steps.
Hope you apply for the next round.
